Reader Appreciation Sunday!

I've decided to try a new feature that I hope will become a perennial favorite! Every so often I get a letter or a comment that really makes me smile and makes writing Lolita Charm all worth it, and I want to honor that with a special place on this blog. It's the readers that really bring Lolita Charm to life, and I am so gratefully for every last one of you reading this right now! So I've decided to start Reader Appreciation Sunday! It will showcase at least one, sometimes more, readers who make Lolita Charm's heart beat. Each Reader Appreciation Sunday will be different - it could be the blog spotlight of a reader, a letter with a touching lolita experience, or even just a great comment. Keep a look out - it could be you!

This week's favorite reader email is from Amanda!

Hi Victoria Suzanne!

I'm 20 years old and have been obsessing over Lolita since I started reading your blog starting November. Today I had the honor of meeting a very well dressed lolita for the first time. I was so thrilled.

I've put lolita on a small pedestal thinking I can't buy the clothes or make the clothes because I don't have the money/can't sew but meeting this girl Sarah from the same town that I live has made it seem much more attainable. She was really nice and so sweet about the whole thing when I approached her and asked if she was into lolita fashion. When I first saw her she was wearing a nice dark winter coat and this beautiful dress adorned with these almost fairy tale like silhouette scenes in brown and light pink that she SEWED HER SELF!!! I was impressed with the texture of the fabric and how sturdy it was. Over that she wore a cute short sleeved light pink cardigan. She wore cute saddle shoes with black tights. I was really liking the poof of the skirt and completely in love with her.

I gushed to her, about how ecstatic I was to meet a fellow lolita lover, and I asked her a few questions about lolita. She was really sweet, and I fell in love with her personality and hugged her 4 times in the short exchange we had. She was happy too to meet another who know about lolita and said that she only met one other person in our area who had asked her about the fashion. It made my day. We swapped contact info and she was off, gone from my sight with what I would say a huge grin on both of our faces. And who would have thought this happened all in a grocery store.

I am writing you to thank you. I contribute you and your blog for getting me out of my normal comfort zone and hum drum life, and taking something I liked, making it something I love, and then making a start of a dream come true. If I hadn't stumbled onto your blog, I don't think I would have had the courage to talk to Sarah today and creating more bonds with people. I feel more confident and wanted to share with you what I hope will be a great lolita "success" story.

Continuing to read,

Amanda

Amanda, this is the kind of letter that makes me so, so happy about writing Lolita Charm. I want more stories like yours, about girls making real connections with new friends, in the real world made into a fairytale by lolita fashion. I hope this adds a little more magic into your life - as the song Enchanted says, Forever could even start today. You never know when everything will suddenly turn the corner, and you realize that nothing is impossible. I wish you good luck on your fall into lolita wonderland, and that's everything you ever imagined it could be, and more

I've also started to follow a ton of newer lolita blogs - around 88 to be precise now! - and as part of this week's  Reader Appreciation Sunday, I'll also spotlight a Lolita Charm reader's blog!

This Sunday's favorite blog is:

Springbells!

Springbells is the blog of Swedish lolita Ellinor, who besides being absolutely adorable, even sews her own clothes! My favorite post shows her newest creation, a lovely retro polka dot jumperskirt of gray and red.

But this post is also a close second, featuring her handmade dress Golden Carousel:

Such a dreamy photograph! The dark snow and this simple, fantastical dress make me fall in love with winter - and adorably minimalist coordinates - all over again. It's so inspiring! Read more from Springbells!

If you want your blog to be spotlighted with Reader Appreciation Sunday you just have to be a Google Friend Connect Follower, and then of course I fall in love with your blog and the rest is history!  Whenever I get new followers the first thing I do is see if they have blogs or read new ones I haven't seen yet - it's such a great way to share experiences and enrich the lolita community in the blogosphere! But you won't know if it's you until Sunday! It will also always be a surprise ;)

 & butterfly kisses,
