Heart-Shaped Cookies and Ribbons Like Butterflies

I am a lolita/my heart is made of heart shaped cookies and my lungs are made of balloons/my brain is filled with candy and my veins are stuffed with glitter/no matter what wrapper I might come in/whether it be Angelic Pretty, Baby the Stars Shine Bright or plain t-shirt and jeans, I am still me/still a lolita/ no matter what wrapper I might wear

Quebec Lolita documentary in French with English substyles - the girls express some very beautiful sentiments, as well as being beautifully dressed. See the rest of the documentary here!

‎"I am a special maiden." It’s okay for you to think that, you know. Even if there are strangers who look away and snicker at you because your skirt is too puffy, or because the ribbon adorning your hair is too big, you don’t have to let it bother you.
– Arika Takarano; GLB 27

I thought that lolitas try to abide by that rule as well. Their big ribbons are a mimicry of a butterfly. And so they adapt to stuffed animals, and go about living while pretending they are incompetent dolls. That is because it's the sole way of receiving protection from the cruelty of this world.

I spend a good deal of my time online, looking for new things to write about and new topics that spark my interest. Recently I was serendipitously bombarded with a selection of beautiful lolita inspirations - not pictures or girls or clothing as usual, but quotes. The lolita community speaks many languages, and being such visual people as we are, tends to speak in photographs more than anything else. Text or literature has been a rarer form for lolita expression - except now, as lolita blogs begin to support mostly text-based content. But even that is missing something necessary of lolita - the fantasy and that unique, surreal, gothishly cute wonderland quality. So when I found a collection of quotes possessing that, I had to compile them here for anyone who wants to find that fantasy in lolita fashion. Sometimes it seems like between the Print of the Month Club, the eyeliner tips, and trying to find the exact ISO on your camera to take an outfit shot... we've lost a little of that fantasy. But these inspiring pieces reminded me of that fantasy, and why I became a lolita in the first place. Hopefully it does the same for you
