New York Anime Festival + Outfit Post!

Phew! I have returned from a very long day at New York Anime Festival and spent most of the next resting more poor feet... so much walking! I'm glad I wore my vintage rainbow Adidas instead of heels.

Unfortunately I was so busy that there are no photos of yesterday's outfit (a shame! I've never piled so much stuff into my hair before!) but I do have pictures of my haul. This year's theme seemed to be teddy bears - I ended up with quite a few!

The felt bear pin and strawberry cream cookie sandwich bear ring (what a mouthful!) are both from Mousse Chocolat, a friend of mine who makes adorable lolita accessories. Her main style is crochet (she makes lovely crochet bows, brooches, and scarfs!) but I love her felt style too. They're so warm and snuggly looking, very good for winter! The ring is my favorite, I'm on the hunt for more lolita rings.

The candy is from Lolitas and Cream also run by my friend Lindsay! She makes beautiful sweets jewelry and deco commissions. This pendant is an iridescent 3D candy completely covered in aurora borealis Swarovski crystals. Sweets bling has to be the new thing! Especially for winter, it reminds me of the Nutcracker's Candyland.

The bigger bear is from Baby the Stars Shine Bright! I loved their Friend Usakuma line and still haven't gotten anything from it, but I do have the cellphone strap now. She's quite soft and her little dress is actually removable (not that I'd leave a little bear naked!) They all have names - the pink one is Judy, the yellow is Sophie and the blue is Lillian. You can get a feel for her size by seeing her next to my Angelic Pretty bear up top!

The skirt is my favorite! I've never seen it anywhere online before but it is from Baby the Stars Shine Bright. It's a winter weight pink tweed shot through with silvery strands that make the whole skirt shimmer. It has pink lace and pink rose-shaped lace and even better, bows made from ruffled satin ribbon. I rarely get to see Baby clothes in person before I buy them, and Baby's photos never do their clothes justice. When I was watching Kamikaze Girls recently, I bemoaned the lack of old-school Baby clothing. In the days before prints' popularity, most pieces central focus was on the lace or ribbons or fabric texture. This princessly elegant skirt is sweet lolita style without being smothered in rainbows and candy, and a breath of fresh air. I had missed beauty for beauty's sake - loving the construction and architecture of the skirt, not just thin fabric with a print on it. (Blasphemy from me, devoted follower of AP! gasp!) It's these pieces that stand out from the crowd. I'd love to see Baby move towards this style and do Elegant Sweet Lolita (not that ESL makes a great abbreviation) to contrast with Angelic Pretty's hyper sugar. It's the perfect transition zone for girls moving out of sweet but perhaps not quite ready for classic.

Even better - everything Baby at the Kinokuniya booth was 30% off! I got this brand new skirt for a secondhand price!

So today I just had to put it all together. A simple coordinate for a day at home:

(not sure why I look so dorky here :P)

skirt, bustier, bow, cellphone charm (hooked into the lace of my bodice!): Baby the Stars Shine Bright!
socks, blouse: Angelic Pretty
shoes: Harajuku Lovers
necklace, accessories: Lolitas and Cream, Mousse Chocolat

and here is one bad photo of myself and my friend Lindsay at the Lolitas and Cream booth! I'll be reviewing my new Miwako-style wig soon!

Lindsay in Jelly Jewelry and myself in Wonder Cookie! You can just make out my vanilla bear brooch from Alice Doll :)

I so wanted to go to NYAF this year! But, silly me, I didn't think ahead to rent a wheel chair :/
I suppose there's always next year :)

My brother went and said he walked by your panel, he likes Lolita because it's so different, he always asks when I'll wear it lol.

I love both of these co-ords and that wig looks super adorable on you <3

To be honest, this is my favorite kind of post from you. You make sweet lolita seem so fun, so accessible! I like your more in-depth posts too, of course, but every now and then it's nice to just sit back and see someone enjoying their frills~

^ ^ ^ ^ Please do! I'm a classic lolita, and I love it, but something about seeing sweet lolita just fills me with joy.

Thumbs up for teddy bears!!! I'm quite crazy about them now, but I can't find any bear-themed accesory where I live (how unuuusual ._.).

Lolita events are so magical. I don't know... It's like, one day you're alone, in front of your computer enjoying your own frills, searching for Lolita pictures on the internet, chatting with some of them through e-mail... and the next day, you're surrounded by real ones, not pictures, not draws, just girls like you. It's like living a fairytale, or entering a new secret world.

And, YEAH, I totally agree with you about the desire of seeing more plain, interesting-designed dresses and skirts instead another hyper-sugggared print. And I l-o-v-e prints...
