Femme Humaine/Femme Sirene

Just a few quick shots from visiting the aquarium today! I've always wanted to wear my Emily Temple Cute Mermaid Onepiece for something sea-related, and today was finally my chance! Using the 'aquarium mode' on my camera and the underwater blue lighting inside the tanks, I really got the effect I was looking for. Since I'm prone to ridiculous romanticism, my idea was to make it look like the Little Mermaid was on a date with her prince - where he has unwittingly chosen the aquarium, making her both homesick and glad to see some of the fish and sea anemones that remind her of her life under the sea. The only clue to her real identity are the telltale (tail?) mermaids patterned across her dress ;)

This picture is my favorite! The colors are so vivid and exactly the way I imagine a fantasy mermaid garden to look.

why hello thar!

I also tried out a new pair of my eyelashes today - bought for only $1.50 at Daiso. I had never worn anything so chunky and dramatic, but the look reminded me of the current style popular with Alice Deco. They're so full that they also have a very manga feel to them, reminding me of Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch - a cute anime about a mermaid princess-turned-schoolgirl-turned-magical girl singing sensation (I know it sounds hokey, but it really is pretty entertaining!). They looked great, but they were so long they didn't quite fit behind my glasses!

Outfit Rundown:

Onepiece: Emily Temple Cute
Cardigan: Angelic Pretty
Dot Net Bow: Temptations (little boutique at my local mall)
Eyelashes: Daiso
Bag: (not shown): Fireworks (I'll post pictures of it next time!)

Lol, the story is too cute, and I really like the way the seccond picture came out. The colors are definatly magical and fun to look at.

Slightly unrelated, I can't get over how smooth and clear your skin always looks in your pictures. What exactly do you to to keep your face clear, or is it just the lighting from the camera/makeup, or were you just born lucky? ;)

@zombiedragon: My skin goes through cycles like everyone's, but it's pretty lucky lately for one! The other is BB Cream. I love it. I did a review a while back for the brand I use now, but I think I have to replace it soon with a different brand I'll review that kind too. It's something between a tinted moisturizer and very light foundation, and I can use that without other makeup if I want. It smooths my skin tone out and brightens with light-reflecting particles, as well as moisturizers (because I get dry easily) and it really does a lot for me.

@Victoria Suzanne: Oh i wish I had that luck. LOL I have very oily skin and can't go more then two hours without having to rinse off my face. My skin is the thing that always kicks my self esteem in the face. :| I'll have to look into that.
I'm upset because I've been using St. Ives aprocot scrub and I just exfoliate with that every other day and it used to clear my skin up wonderfully but the last two or so months I noticed it hasen't been doing as well of a job as it did origionally and I'm back to my face being broken out all over.

@zombiexdragon: I used to use that scrub too when I was told it's too rough on the face - it's actually bits of apricot hull that feels like sand! Something with microbeads will be better. I don't get too oily unless I'm hormonal, and then I try to use oil blotting papers throughout the day. That might help you :)

@Victoria Suzanne: I never thought about the fact it could be too rough on the skin, that might be causing me to break out more. (blah) I don't really want to use one with microbeads since I kind of know that its really bad for the enviroment (I'd feel soooo guilty using it knowing I'm harming the enviroment), but I wonder if there's something similar to it that wont pollute maybe? I'll have to look into it. Anyway thanks for all the info! :)

Victoria, I am so happy to have stumbled over your lovely blog! I have had an affection for lolita culture for about five years now...my own personality is too schizophrenic to commit to one look with such devotion, but lolita definitely touches a deep part of my nature. I grew up reading fairytales, watching Disney, longing for romance and anything beautiful in my life. I spent much of my school years trying to hide that part of myself after being entirely rejected at a new school and left friendless for several years. My twenties have been all about reclaiming my femininity and not apologizing for it! I love love love your post about the dangers of standing out...what a touching and thought-provoking post!

Looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful personal expression!
Hope Ava

PS I ADORE your pink hair
